Marina Markovic wurde 1983 in Belgrad, Serbien, geboren. Sie erwarb ihren B.A. und M.A. in Malerei an der Fakultät für Bildende Künste in Belgrad. Derzeit promoviert sie an der Universität Belgrad im Bereich Neue Medien. Seit 2006 hat sie auf verschiedenen Festivals, Kunstmessen, Gruppen- und Einzelausstellungen in Serbien, den Vereinigten Staaten, Großbritannien, Japan, Italien, Mexiko und darüber hinaus ausgestellt. Sie nahm an Artist-in-Residence-Programmen am ISCP in New York, am ZETA in Tirana und am Q21 - MuseumsQuartier in Wien teil. Marina Markovic lebt und arbeitet in New York und Belgrad. Körper und Verkörperung sind die zentralen Motive ihrer künstlerischen Praxis, die sich von der Auseinandersetzung mit persönlichen Erfahrungen bis hin zur Betrachtung komplexer gesellschaftlicher Fragen in Bezug auf den weiblichen Körper erstreckt. In ihrer künstlerischen Praxis versucht sie, verschiedene soziopolitische Druckmechanismen aufzudecken, d.h. den biopolitischen Imperativ, der Frauen durch das Heteropatriarchat auferlegt wird, und zeigt auf, inwieweit die Themen Freiheit und Zwang für eine Frau untrennbar miteinander verbunden sind.

Marina Markovic was born in Belgrade, Serbia, in 1983. She earned her B.A. and M.A. in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade. MM is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in New Media at the University of Belgrade. Since 2006 she has exhibited extensively at various festivals, art fairs, group and solo exhibitions throughout Serbia, the United States, Great Britain, Japan, Italy, Mexico and beyond. She participated in artist-in-residence programs at ISCP in New York, ZETA in Tirana and Q21 – MuseumsQuartier in Vienna. Marina Markovic lives and works in New York and Belgrade. Body and embodiment are the central motives of her artistic practice, which spans from dealing with the personal experiences to the consideration of complex social questions posed in relation to the woman’s body. Throughout her artistic practice, she tries to unveil various socio-political mechanisms of pressure, that is, the biopolitical imperative imposed on women by the heteropatriarchy, pointing to the extent to which the issues of freedom and coercion for a woman are inseparable.
